  1. Take Your Time

From the recording Source Materials

This song is about my struggles with anxiety and living in Los Angeles. The anxiety trope is
a bit overdone in music these days, but I think what makes this song unique is that it places my
anxiety within the context of living in a city that can be overwhelming at times. It is not explicitly
about anxiety, but the lyrics allude to it. This is a city where beauty, success, and celebrity culture
permeate all aspects of life. Even when I leave the city, these fears of not measuring up are
ingrained in me. Anxiety for me means feeling so much all at once. Beauty standards,
7
perfectionism, fear of failure, impossible expectations. I feel it so deeply at times, and it feels like I
am too alive. “Take Your Time” is really asking the people close to me in my life to be patient with
me as I work through these anxieties and expectations that have been imposed upon me throughout my whole life.

Lyrics

Track 6: Take Your Time
Waiting on a miracle to save me
Haven’t felt like myself here lately
It’s hard to stay dry when you’re standing in the rainfall
I pretend everything’s ok
So they look the other way
But you can’t read my mind
It’s so easy from the outside looking in
Just take your time with me
Its mid-July
Summer’s ending but the leaves don’t fall here
They stay above the ground but so will I
I feel too alive
Leaving soon
Gone with the weather
Days are shorter but they're not much better
The monsters, they're hiding in the daylight
I have tried to get them off my mind
They keep coming back anyway
I pretend everything's ok
So they look the other way
